Newsletter No. 16 - 2007

21 to 28 July threw up 34 fish with 1 fifty, 7 forties and 15 thirties to the 5 anglers on the lake. Darren Grinstead took 13 fish from swim 11 with 4 forties including a pb mirror of 43lbs and a pb common of 47lbs. Darren also took 7 thirties to 39lbs. Kev Simmons had 12 fish with a new pb of 54lbs, 2 forties to 45.4lbs and 4 thirties to 36lbs. Richard Scott in swim 8 landed 3 fish of 28, 38 and a pb common of 41lbs. Big Ed had 3 fish to 30lbs common and Scott also took 3 fish of 26, 33 and 35lbs. Most fish came to maggots fished in the margins and at close range.

The following week was much slower with 12 fish to 5 anglers. Dave Blake in swim 10 took 6 fish with 3 thirties to 39lbs and a best of 40.3lbs. Paul Roberts fished swim 11 for 3 thirties to 35.8lbs and a best of 45.12lbs. Mike Phillips took 2 fish including a 42.12lbs mirror. Jamie Stanley had a twenty and Jamie Bennet blanked.

26 fish with 14 losses were the following week’s results. Andy Crimmins in swim 3 took 12 fish with 3 forties to 45.12lbs and 4 thirties to 38lbs. He lost 2 fish. John Gooding fished swim 12 and banked 5 fish and also lost 2. He took the week’s biggest fish at 48.8lbs and 2 thirties to 38lbs. His forty was a pb. Martin Bonny in swim 11 beat his pb 4 times with his 6 fish. He landed 4 thirties to 39lbs. He lost 4. Alan Bonny in swim 8 lost 6 but landed 3 including a new pb common of 42.4lbs. Premier Matrix doing the business this week.

50 fish out the next week, 11 to 18 August. This included a fifty, 10 forties and 19 thirties. There were 13 losses. Jason Jeffrey in swim took 17 fish and lost 8. He had a pb of 54.10lbs plus 2 forties to 48lbs. Keith Gummer fished in pegs 8 and 12 to bank 9 fish with 2 forties, a 41.10 mirror and a 41.9 common. Mike Nicholas had 8 fish with 3 over the magic forty mark…best 46.6lbs. Steve Lake in swim 11 caught 8 fish all over thirty with 2 forties up to a new pb of 46lbs. He also banked a chub out of the stream behind his swim on a worm! Clive Leatherby finished up with 5 fish with 2 thirties and 2 forties to 41.8lbs, a new pb. Elite baits Smokey Mackerel baits doing the damage. Not only to the fish but also to my freezer which now stinks something rotten….cheers guys.


31 fish out the next week with a fifty, 7 forties and 12 thirties. Ian Ockwell in swim 3 was the week’s top rod with 15 fish. He had a fifty at 54.11lbs, 4 forties including a 42lbs common and 6 thirties. Bob Harper in swim 4 took 6 fish with 2 twenties, 2 thirties and 2 forties to 44lbs. Steve Bucley took 6 fish to a new pb of 45lbs from swim 12 and Nigel Stockall took 4 fish to a new pb of 37.8lbs from swim 11.

1 to 8 Sept produced some real quality fish for Millstone regular Frank Errington and his party. 34 fish were landed with a fifty, 13 forties and 11 thirties. Frank took 10 fish with 6 forties to 46lbs and 3 thirties to 35.2lbs. Martin Asker also banked 10 fish with a pb at 57lbs and 3 forties including commons of 47.1lbs and 40.2lbs. Ian Sutton fished near the islands and caught 10 fish with 3 forties to 46lbs and 4 thirties of 30, 36, 38 and 39lbs. Tony Errington had 2 fish at 42 and 36lbs and Jimmy Sanders also took 2 fish at 33 and 29lbs. Mainline Active8 boilies fished at close range with bags the winning formula.

An even better week followed with 62 fish taken with 3 fifties, 16 forties and 35 thirties. Phil ‘big cheese’ Green banked 23 fish with the weeks biggest at 56.8lbs, a new pb, along with 3 forties to 48.6lbs. He also took a 44.4lbs pb common. Phil racked up an amazing 17 thirties too, up to 39.6lbs. Swim 4 producing the goods. Alan ’wooley’ Woolhead  took 20 fish with 2 fifties of 55.8lbs and 51.6lbs plus 7 forties including mirrors to 48.4lbs and commons to 42.4lbs. Both his mirror and common pb’s being beaten. Paul ‘deep end’ Middleton caught 7 fish with 2 forties and 5 thirties. Paul doubled up in swim 11 with Alan. Chris ‘mutley’ Ashton fished swims 2 and 7 to bank 10 fish with 4 forties to 47.8lbs, a new pb, and 2 thirties to 37lbs. Steve ‘lucky’ Gifford was the only angler to struggle and banked 2 fish of 30.8lbs and 34.6lbs, which was a pb.
Various baits worked for the anglers. Pepperami accounted for a number of the bigger fish. 10mm boilies worked well over pellets and in conjunction with small stick bags. Phil took 3 large carp on small cheese hook baits also.

Not surprisingly a slower week followed although plenty of quality fish were banked. Vern Ellis’s party of 4 landed 21 fish with 7 forties, 6 of which were 45lbs plus. Vern caught 11 fish from swim 11 with 5 forties including a 48lbs mirror and 49lbs common.
Lee in swim 7 took 5 fish with forties of 45lbs and 48.8lbs, a new pb. Steve and Andy had to depart early due to a family emergency but both managed pb’s with Steve taking 4 fish to 36lbs and Andy a 32lbs mirror. 22 to 29 September produced 39 fish to 4 anglers with 9 forties and 18 thirties. Pat Issacs banked 11 fish from swim 4 with 2 forties at 44.12lbs mirror and 44.14lbs common plus 6 thirties to 39.4lbs, which was also a common. Steve Payne in peg 11 had 13 fish including 2 forties at 42.10lbs and 48lbs along with 5 thirties to 39.10lbs. Frazer Marsh caught 7 fish with 3 forties of 43.4lbs, 48.6lbs and 49.4lbs and also took 2 thirties to 38lbs. Kevin Elliot in swim 2 netted 8 fish with 2 forties of 43.4lbs and 46.8lbs and 5 thirties to 39.14lbs. The Kent anglers used Malarkie boilies over pellet and maggots.

The following week threw up a number of large carp as 7 fifties and 12 forties out of 66 fish were banked. Trevor Anthony had 21 fish including 3 fifties: 51.8lbs common, 53.8lbs mirror and a 58.8lbs mirror. He also had 3 forties and 11 thirties. Chris Snell also took 21 fish with 2 fifties at 56.8lbs and 57.8lbs plus 2 forties to 48lbs and 10 thirties. Jackie Young caught 18 fish with a 50.8lbs mirror, 4 forties to 49.12lbs and 9 thirties. Bob Young managed 6 fish with a 56.14lbs mirror and 3 forties of 43.8lbs, 44.4lbs and a 43.12lbs common. Sweetcorn and pellets working well this week.

Dave Billett and wife Barb had the lake to themselves the following week. The pair took 21 fish with 5 forties and 6 thirties. Dave had 15 fish with a 49.4lbs common and 5 thirties to 39.4lbs. Barb banked 6 fish with 4 forties including a 44lbs common and a 44.4lbs mirror. She also had one thirty at 38lbs. All the fish came to Dave’s home made fishmeal boilies.

The next 2 weeks had Peter Woods and Chris Bond on the lake and despite very cold and clear conditions the pair landed 20 fish with 4 forties to 49lbs and 9 thirties to 37.8lbs. The week’s best common went to Chris at 44.3lbs. Home made boilies over pellet the method used.

More clear, cold conditions the following week made for difficult fishing. Despite this some good fish were landed by the 3 anglers on the lake. They took 13 fish with 3 fifties and 4 forties. Mark Reynolds beat his pb twice. First with a common of 51.8lbs and then with a mirror of 55lbs. Mark took 4 fish with the 2 fifties and another good mirror of 44lbs. Stan Lockyer had 6 fish with a new pb of 50.8lbs plus 2 forties to 44.8lbs.
Rob Lewis banked 3 fish with the best going 46.8lbs. Boilies from Mainline, along with pellets, corn and Mark’s Garlic groundbait scoring for the Surrey anglers.

Clear sunny days and cold frosty nights made for very testing fishing conditions the following week. The 2 anglers on the lake managed 7 fish with an average weight of 42.9lbs. Keith Williams in swim 2 took 4 fish. A 32.4lbs common and mirrors of 39.13lbs, 45.3lbs and 47.6lbs Andy Green in swim 4 had 3 fish, all mirrors. The weights were 38lbs, 47.9lbs and 50.6lbs. All the fish came on small Mistral rosehip boilies or plastic corn fished over pellet, maggot and sweetcorn.

The final week of the season at Millstone threw up 18 fish to 4 anglers. This was good going really when you consider the sub zero temperatures and the ice on the lake on the final morning. 2 fifties, 4 forties and 9 thirties were banked. Most fish coming to corn or maggots. Kev Simmons did very well to take 11 fish with fifties at 57.12lbs and 50.4lbs along with 4 forties to 47lbs. Darren Grimstead landed 4 fish with 3 thirties, big Ed 2 thirties and Richard Smith one thirty. The season produced 230 captures of forty pound plus fish with 48 captures being over fifty pounds.

Newsletter No. 15 - 2007

The new season kicked off with a real bang down at Millstone Pool with 33 fish banked by 4 anglers with 6 fifties, 13 forties and 9 thirties.

Rick Dann really got amongst the quality fish in his 13 fish catch with 4 fifties including a 57.12lbs pb and 9 forties to 49.10lbs. Anthony Beard took 11 fish with 4 forties to a pb of 49.6lbs and 4 thirties to 39.4lbs. Nigel Yapp got in on the fifties action taking 2 at 50.8lbs and 51.6lbs amongst his 8 fish haul. Nigel also had 3 forties to 47.2lbs.

Neil Pearce struggled, taking a 35.12lbs mirror and losing another good fish. Mainline Essential Opal and Millstone pellets proving the winning combination. The following week fished slower due to the fish beginning to pair up for spawning. However a number of quality carp were once again banked.

The 3 anglers on the lake took 13 fish with 3 fifties, 3 forties and 5 thirties. Mark Hayes landed 6 fish with a fifty pound common at 51.7lbs and a forty mirror of 45.7lbs, both pb’s. Mark Hare had 4 fish with a pb of 57.8lbs plus 3 thirties.

Paul Gardner took 3 fish weighing 57.8lbs, 46.4lbs and 44.6lbs. Nash Scopex Squid Livers being the bait of choice. 21 to 28 April produced 51 carp to 4 anglers. 3 fifties, 11 forties and 23 thirties were banked even with the fish spawning early week. Every angler managed a pb during this session.

Gary Blackwell in swim 4 took 7 fish with 2 fifties to 50.12lbs, a 46.7lbs mirror and 3 thirties to 39.12lbs. Mark Blackwell in swim 11 landed 15 fish with 4 forties to 48.2lbs and 8 thirties to 38.8lbs.

Geoff Brooks banked 13 fish from swim 9 including a 50.6lbs mirror, 2 forties to 47.10lbs and 4 thirties to 39.4lbs. Jon Elsom managed 16 fish from peg 2 with 3 forties to 44.10lbs and 8 thirties to 39.14lbs. Small Scopex Squid Liver boilies, with pellet and sweetcorn, proving the winning combination for the Romford quartet.

Another steady week with plenty of big carp landed the following week. In all, 33 fish came out to 4 anglers. 3 fifties, 9 forties and 9 thirties were landed. Mike Farrington in swim 7 took 13 fish with a pb mirror of 50.8lbs plus 3 forties to 46lbs. Aaron Bowsher fished swim 10 to land 6 fish to 40.8lbs.

Gary Hewitt Long caught 10 fish from swim 11 including a new pb of 56.11lbs. Gary also took a pb common of 38.3lbs plus 4 forties to 42.10lbs. Peter Chmiel shared swim 11 to bag 4 fish and he to beat his pb. First with a 49lbs mirror and then a 50.11lbs mirror.

Hinders Blitz boilies over pellet and crumb working well. 5 to 12 of May threw up 55 fish with a fifty, 10 forties and 23 thirties. Martin Wassell in swim 4 took 22 fish with 3 forties to 45.10lbs and 10 thirties to 38.8lbs. Scott Rodgers fished swim 2 and banked 11 fish with 2 forties to 45.12 and 5 thirties to 39.12lbs.

Rich Turner opted for the dam wall bay and set up in swim 12. Rich caught 11 fish with a forty and 6 thirties to 39.14lbs. Mark Shilham in swim 1 banked 9 fish including 3 forties to 47.8lbs and 2 thirties to 38.12lbs, a common. Stu Howe only managed 2 fish but at 55.12lbs and 45.8lbs he was chuffed. SBS M1 and pellets working for the majority of the Midlands anglers. Rodgers and Wassell used home made fishmeal boilies.

The week of 12 to 19 May produced plenty of good quality fish to the 4 anglers. In all 36 fish were taken with 6 fifties, 8 forties and 12 thirties. Richard Pringle got amongst the bigger fish taking 4 fifties and 2 upper forties and 6 thirties in his 14 fish haul.

Andrew Downes landed the biggest fish of the week, and a new pb, at 56.12lbs plus another fifty and a pb common of 41.12lbs amongst his 10 fish. Swim 1 being the spot for Andrew. Phil Lewendon had 9 fish from swim 9 with the 2 best going 45.2lbs and 45.12lbs. Brian Parker took 3 fish at 41.10lbs, 42.12lbs and 47.12lbs.

Various baits from Hinders of Swindon, plus Millstone pellets accounting for the fish. Hot weather the following week had the fish spawning once again. This slowed the fishing somewhat with 20 fish falling to 5 anglers. 1 fifty, 5 forties and 7 thirties were caught.  The good news was that the lake record was upped to 59lbs. This fell to the rods of Rob Hume on his first visit to France.

Gaz Wilson took 12 fish to 48.14lbs from the islands. He also had a 47.3lbs. Tom Bradburn banked fish of 47.14, 41, 40.10 and 36.8lbs. Steve Coppack upped his pb with fish of 34.10lbs and 39.2lbs.

Dave Thompson had a 39.3lbs mirror from swim 1. Another slow week followed with 5 fish caught. A temperature drop from 31 degrees to 8 in just 36 hours making life difficult. Richard Jupp upped his pb with a 52.4lbs mirror whilst son Josh took a 45.8lbs mirror. Graham Holme had 3 fish to 33.8lbs.

The following week and 3 anglers took 17 fish. Top rod Matt Ottaway landed 11 fish from swim 8 by the islands. He took 5 thirties up to a new pb mirror of 37.12lbs and commons of 40.4lbs and a new lake record common of 54.2lbs. This fish being the rarely caught silver common.

Nick Sansome and Paul Walker shared swim 11 and had 6 fish to 44lbs. Nutrabaits Trigga and corn working well. The end of June produced 18 fish for John Bibby and James Nicholas. 2 fifties, 3 forties and 5 thirties were banked using Premier Matrix boilies. John had 7 fish with a 44.7 and a pb common of 39.15lbs. James landed 11 fish with 2 fifties of 55.01 and 51.10lbs plus 2 forties to 45.10lbs and 4 thirties. John fished swim 4 and John swim 11.

The start of July and 23 fish were caught by 3 anglers, made up of 1 fifty, 2 forties and 8 thirties. Steve Sellar took 8 fish from swim 11 with a pb of 51lbs being the best. He also had 5 thirties to 39lbs. Aubrey Sellar had a 29lber and Paul Clark banked 14 fish from swim 8 fishing into the channel between the islands. Paul beat his pb with a 43.10lbs mirror and then beat his common best with a fish of 41.4lbs. He also took 3 thirties to 37.12lbs. Maple 8 and Active 8 the boilies used this week.

The following week and Gary Holder booked the lake to himself and girlfriend Linda McKenzie. Gary used maggots and had a great result doing so. He managed 24 fish with 6 forties to 48lbs and 9 thirties to 39lbs. Gary’s best common went 41lbs. Linda also banked a couple of thirties with the best going 38lbs. Gary fished swims 7, 4 and 11. He also stalked a number of fish from the shallows, the highlight being a brace of forties, 41 and 42lbs one afternoon.

Newsletter No. 14 - 2006

Members of Harrow angling society fished the 23 to 30 September and caught some real quality fish. In total the 4 anglers took 31 fish with 3 fifties and 10 forties (6 over 45lbs).

Steve Richardson fished at close range in swim 3 and took the 2 biggest mirrors in the lake at 58lbs and 56.6lbs plus 3 forties in his 8 fish haul.

John Wesley in swim 4 banked 7 fish with a 43lbs common and a couple of 36’s. Les ”Baldy” Skidmore landed 5 fish from swims 11 and 1, best 2 going 46lbs and 45.8lbs. Ian “Ginga” Kempster fished swims 11 and 12 to take 11 fish with a 50.12lbs mirror, a 49.14lbs common and back up forties of 48, 47 and 46.8lbs.

Home made robin red boilies proving to be big fish catchers for the Middlesex anglers.
The following week produced a great haul of fish to the 4 anglers on the lake. Perfect weather conditions helping the anglers bag up. They landed 80 fish with a fifty, 23 forties and 32 thirties.

Trevor Anthony was top rod with 36 fish including a fifty at 55.4lbs, 13 forties with 7 over 45lbs including a 49.12lbs common. Trevor fished from swim 10 to the far margin tree line. Next door in 11 and Bob Young took 22 fish with 5 forties. Best mirror 45.12lbs and best common 43.12lbs. Bobs wife Jackie had 19 fish with 4 forties to 45.4lbs. Pete Samme moved from swim 4 to 12 and caught 3 fish to 45.8lbs.

Newsletter No. 13 - 2006

Some good sized fish were taken in the week from 19 to 26 August by Peter Wood’s group. They accounted for 33 fish with a fifty, 11 forties and 10 thirties.
Peter took 6 fish with 3 of these being forty and 3 over thirty. His best a 46.6lbs mirror. Peter’s sons Matt and Ben also scored well with Ben taking a couple of forties and Matt landing the best of the week at 53.8lbs. He also had a common of 41.14lbs and another fine mirror of forty plus.

Chris Bond had 7 fish to 45.8 lbs from the back bay, whilst son Daryl landed 3 to 33.8lbs from swim 1.

The last week of August had a strange mix of weather with warm, sunny spells mixed with heavy showers and cold periods. The last couple of days of the week became very warm and slowed the fishing somewhat. The fishing was fairly good however with 36 fish banked including a fifty, 10 forties and 15 thirties.
Alan Harrison jnr took 13 fish from swim 11 including a fifty and 4 forties. His fifty was a pb common of 50.10lbs and he also took a pb mirror of 48.13lbs, and a pb grass carp of 25.8lbs.

Over in swim 12 Paul Wright managed 10 fish with 4 forties and 5 thirties. He had a pb common of 46.10lbs, a pb mirror of 47.9lbs and a pb grass carp of 38.6lbs. Matt Boocock fished swim 2 to land 6 fish with a pb of 42.6lbs and 3 thirties to 39.1lbs. Next door in swim 3 Jimmy Bullen took 4 fish to a pb mirror of 44.8lbs and finally Alan Harrison snr had 3 fish to 36.12lbs from swim 1. Shellfish B5 and sweetcorn being the baits of choice, with the lions share coming to corn.
Very hot weather the following week really slowed things up.
11 fish out with 4 forties and 2 thirties.
Del the roofer took the biggest of the week at 49lbs. Neil Fordyce had 2 forties at 42.8 and 47.2lbs Al Wakeman had the weeks other forty at 42lbs along with 3 twenties.
Wet, windy and cooler weather the following week brought an improvement in the fishing.

34 fish landed with 3 fifties, 10 forties and 14 thirties.
Mark Shilham banked 8 fish with the weeks biggest at 52.12, a 44.12 and 3 thirties. Marks wife Sue took 4 fish with a new pb at 51lbs, 2 forties to 44.8 and a 36lbs.
Bryan Burgh fished down by the islands to take 7 fish with a pb common of 42.12lbs and a mirror of 41.8lbs.

Rich Turner in swim 4 took 5 fish with 4 thirties.
Paul Armfield was the week’s top rod, fishing swim 11 Paul managed 10 fish with a 50.1lbs mirror, 5 forties and 4 thirties including commons of 32, 37.8 and 39.9lbs.

The good fishing continued into the next week as Joe Easton and Paul Osborne took 39 fish between them with a fifty, 13 forties and 10 thirties.
Joe and Paul fished swims 10 and 11 and used 12 mm Nutrabaits Trigga with a little and often approach.

Joe landed 20 fish with a fifty and 6 forties. Paul took 19 fish with 7 forties and 7 thirties. Paul beat his pb with a mirror of 48.11lbs and beat his common pb with a 38.4lbs fish

Newsletter No. 12 - 2006

Very hot, dry weather produced slow results at the end of July. The 22 to 29 July produced 12 fish to the anglers on the lake. This included a forty and 6 thirties. Paul Latham made the best of the difficult conditions and took 6 fish with a forty and 4 thirties weighing 39.6, 38, 37.4 and 32.

Ian Holbrooks 3 man party accounted for 26 fish with 7 forties and 10 thirties the following week. Ian in swim 8 had 18 fish with 5 forties and 4 thirties. This included a pb common of 46 lbs and a pb mirror of 48 lbs. Gary Hillman in swim 10 took 4 fish with 2 forties and 2 thirties. He had a pb common of 47 lbs and a pb mirror of 46 lbs. Adrian (no last name) was in the usually prolific swim 11 but only managed 4 thirties to 39 lbs, which was a pb mirror.

Two anglers had the lake to themselves 5 to 12 August. They accounted for 14 fish with a fifty, 4 forties and 3 thirties. They also lost a further 10 fish. James Nic took 10 fish with 3 forties including a pb mirror of 46.8 lbs and a pb common of 31.12 lbs.
James fished from swim 11 and used Premier baits Matrix. Swim 10 produced 4 fish to John Bib with a pb of 50.14 lbs plus a 44.12 lbs making his week. John used Premier Aminos.

12 to 19 August produced 31 fish to 2 anglers with 11 forties and 13 thirties. Andrew Crimmins really had a bumper week in swim 12 on the dam wall landing 24 fish with 10 forties and 11 thirties. This included a pb mirror of 46.12 lbs and a pb common of 48.8 lbs. Andy had a run of 5 consecutive forties from Thursday evening to Friday morning. Fishing buddy John Gooding over in swim 11 had 7 fish with a forty and 2 thirties. Premier Matrix in various sizes over Millstone pellets and crumbled boilies the winning formula for the pair

Newsletter No. 11 - 2006

The week 17 to 24 June produced some good fish, for the anglers at Millstone. The weather was very hot at the beginning of the week but stormy cooler weather brought better results later on.
In all 36 fish banked with a fifty, 8 forties and 14 thirties to the 4 anglers.
Sean Fowler in swim 11 took 12 fish with 3 forties up to a new pb of 43 lbs. He also had 5 thirties to 38 lbs which included a pb common of 35.8 lbs. Next door in swim 10 Dave Barrow caught 11 fish with 4 forties and 6 thirties. Dave beat his pb many times and finished with a best of 47.8 lbs. Dean Martin down by the islands in peg 7 took 11 fish including a pb common of 43.8 lbs and the weeks biggest mirror of 55lbs. Dennis Bain took 2 fish with a pb mirror of 38.8 lbs.

43 fish with 2 fifties, 9 forties and 21 thirties were banked by 4 anglers the following week.
Rob Aked in swim 9 took 8 fish with the 2 fifties at 50.12 and 52 lbs each, both beat his pb. He also had 2 forties to 48 lbs and 3 thirties to 39 lbs. Swim 7 produced the most fish to Paul Triggs. He had 18 fish with a 47.12lbs pb, 9 thirties to 38 lbs plus a pb common of 36lbs. Dan Moore took 13 fish with 2 forties and 8 thirties. Mike Fitt had 4 fish with 3 forties to 44.8lbs, a pb and a 34lbs.
Various boilies, fished over pellet working for the anglers.
3 anglers banked 26 fish the following week. Hot day time temperatures and vicious thunderstorms along with an abundance of bloodworm made for hard fishing.
Jackie Young did the best as she took 14 fish with 2 forties, best at 41 lbs. Swim 8 producing the goods for Jackie. Bob Young, next door in swim 9 banked 8 fish with 5 thirties, best a 35 lbs mirror and best common of 34.8 lbs. Trev Anthony in swim 11 had 4 fish, 3 over thirty up to 36.8 lbs.
15 to 22 July produced only 11 fish to 3 anglers. Very hot weather with 35 degree daytime temperatures and muggy nights not helping matters.
1 fifty, 3 forties and 5 thirties were landed. Dave Martyn scored the best with 7 fish including a 50.8 lbs mirror, 3 forties to 49 lbs and a couple of thirties including a 39 lbs common.

Newsletter No. 10 - 2006

The 13th to 20th May produced over a ton of carp to the 3 anglers on the lake. 73 fish were landed with 2 fifties, 21 forties and 26 thirties. 13 of the fish banked were over 45 lbs.
Andrew Downes took 31 fish with a fifty at 50.4 lbs and 12 forties to 49.8 lbs. 8 of Andrew’s fish weighed in at over 45 lbs.
Richard Pringle landed 30 fish with a fifty of 50.8 lbs, 4 forties to 46.12 lbs and 17 thirties to 39.8 lbs.
Phil Lewendon managed 12 fish with 5 forties including a pb mirror of 49 lbs and a pb common of 41.4 lbs.
Roving tactics using Hinders Blitz boilies fished over Hinders crab and krill groundbait and Millstone pellets working for the anglers.
The following week was slower which was to be expected. But good quality fish were banked.
A total of 31 fish with 2 fifties and 8 forties were banked.
Lee Chamberlain really had some great fish with 2 fifties and 2 forties amongst his 10 fish. He fished peg 4 and landed a pb mirror of 52.12 and a pb common of 52.8 lbs. A great brace.
Mick Murray took 8 fish with 4 of those going over forty. His best a pb mirror of 49.4 lbs and a pb common of 42.4 lbs.
Colin Brown had 4 fish with 2 forties to a new pb of 43 lbs.
Graham Moore took 3 fish to 36.12, another gorgeous common.
Allan Brown caught 6 fish with the best a mid twenty.
22 fish were landed the following week with 3 fifties, 4 forties and 6 thirties. Cold night time temperatures, and a northerly wind through the sunny days making life difficult.
Paul Snell took 9 fish with fifties of 54 and 50 lbs. He also took a 47 lbs mirror. All Paul’s fish came from swim 3.
Troy Cherry in swim 4 took only 2 fish but he had the weeks biggest at 56 lbs, a new pb.
Over in swim 11 Gary Cook banked 6 fish which included 2 forties including a pb of 49.8 lbs.
Clint English also beat his pb with a mirror of 42 lbs in his 4 fish haul.
Boilies from Poacher baits and Dynamite baits working for the group.
The next week arrived with hot and still conditions making for hard fishing. Dave Foster managed 2 fish at 35.8 lbs and a 39 lbs pb. Frank Foster had a double and a pb of  41.8 lbs. Ian Foster took 2 real crackers at 42.8 lbs and 53.8 lbs, both beating his previous pb by some margin.

The hot and still weather continued into the following week with temperatures reaching 40 degrees mid week. 8 fish were caught (2 forties and 3 thirties) with Bryan Burgh taking 4 fish to a pb of 44.8 lbs. He also had a good common of 36 lbs. Bryan fished peg 11. Mark Shilham in swim 4 landed 3 fish to a pb of 47.4 lbs and Rich Turner had a 36.6 from swim 12. SBS M1 boilies used by the lads.

Newsletter No. 9 - 2006

The opening week was slow due to the heavy rains followed by frosts and cold north easterly winds. In total 11 fish were banked by the 5 anglers. Jason Meeks in swim 11 did best with 6 fish with a 51.2 lbs common, 2 forties and 2 thirties.

Arron Swainsbury fished swims 10 and 12 to bank 2 thirties. Peter van Kruistum down in swim 8 banked 1 thirty and partner Corne van Djik in swim 9 took 2 fish with a 48.5 lbs mirror being his best. Adam Saunders was the only angler failing to bank a fish.

4 anglers fished the following week from the 8 th to the 15 th of April. Again the weather was wet and windy although the temperatures improved…….along with the fishing. 31 fish were banked with 2 fifties, 5 forties and 12 thirties.

Darren Apps in swim 11 took 17 fish consisting of 2 fifties of 51.12 and 51.8, 2 forties including a 43 common and 4 thirties to 36 lbs. Dave Cox in swim 2 had 5 fish with a forty and 4 thirties to 38.12 lbs. John Pound fished swims 3 and 12 and also took 5 fish with a 47.14 lbs mirror his best.

The remaining carp were taken from swims 4 and 1 by Robbie Martin, his biggest being a two tone mirror of 45.14 lbs. Various frozen boilies from Premier and Mainline fished over Millstone pellets worked for the lads.

The next week produced 23 fish to the 4 anglers with 7 forties and 4 thirties. Mark Jefford in swim 1 took 9 fish with 3 forties including a pb mirror of 48.4 lbs and a pb common of 40.8 lbs. Next door in swim 2 Colin O'Neill banked 3 fish, 2 of which were forties. The best weighed in at 44.8 lbs.

Stu and Daran Brasier fished swims 3 and 4 to take 11 fish with both banking forties. Stu a 43.8 and Daran a 41.14, both mirrors. 22 to 29 of April produced a good number of quality fish. 5 anglers banked 33 fish with 3 fifties, 9 forties and 14 thirties.

Brian Smith took 12 fish with 1 fifty at 51.9lbs, 3 forties to 44.8lbs and 8 thirties to 39lbs. Brian took all his fish in the back bay shallows to pva bag tactics. Derek Lever fished swims 12 and 10 and banked 6 fish with 2 fifties at 52.8lbs and 51lbs and a 49.6lbs fish also.

Paul Miles over by the islands in swim 4 took 9 fish with 3 forties to 48.14lbs and 3 thirties. Peter Chandler in swim 11 had 4 fish to 48.10lbs and Eric Custance in swim 3 managed 2 fish to 44.7lbs.

64 fish were banked the following week with lots of quality fish caught. Brothers Tony and Frank Errington shared swim 11 and had 27 fish between them, with Tony taking 16 and Frank 11. Tony took 7 forties to 49 lbs amongst his haul while Frank banked the best fish of the pair at 50.8 lbs.

Franks son Craig fished in the bottom bay and managed 15 fish with a forty and a pb of 50.8 lbs.

Martin Asker in swim 10 also beat his pb for both common and mirror as amongst his 7 fish he had 3 forties with a 43 lbs common and a 48 lbs mirror. Dave Green in swim 4 took 12 fish with 2 forties, the best at 44.8 lbs. Jimmy Saunders in swim 1 also had a pb with a mirror of 42.8 lbs. Mainline maple 8 and pro active pineapple fished over Millstone pellets and corn working for the lads.

The next week produced more good fish with a new lake record mirror of 57 lbs coming out. 35 fish were banked with 2 fifties, 10 forties and 10 thirties.

Steve Dawson took 14 fish from swim 11 with the new lake best at 57 plus another fifty of 52 lbs. He also landed 3 forties and 5 thirties. Martin White in swim 10 caught 10 fish with a pb mirror at 45.8 lbs and a pb common at 43 lbs along with 4 thirties.

Pete Sheppard fished swim 1 to bank 6 fish with 3 forties up to 47.8 lbs, a new pb. D Bently and J White shared swim 4 to tempt 5 fish including a 45.8 lbs mirror and a 41 lbs common.


Newsletter No. 8 - 2005

The last week in September produced a good number of quality fish for the 3 man party on the lake. 67 fish banked with 1 fifty, 19 forties and 27 thirties.
Keith Williams fished swim 11 to take an amazing 48 fish with 11 forties with commons to 47.12 lbs and mirrors to 48 lbs. Keith had 21 thirties to 39.12 lbs also. Margin and close range tactics in 5 ft of water scoring for Keith.
Next door in 10 and Chris Pardoe was also getting amongst the better fish. Chris beat his pb 13 times with his 17 fish haul. He took the weeks best at 52.3 lbs, 6 forties to 48.12 lbs and 6 thirties to 37.4 lbs.
Down in swim 8 and Andy Stewartson landed 2 forties at 42.4 lbs and a pb of 47.12 lbs.
Mainline pro active pineapple boilies fished over Millstone pellets proving too tempting for those big carp.
The following week and plenty of quality fish again found their way to the banks of Millstone. In fact more forties came out than thirties. 48 fish in total with 13 forties and 12 thirties.
Trevor Anthony in swim 2 banked 6 fish with 2 forties and and 2 thirties. Best a 45.14 mirror.
Bob and Jackie Young paired up in swim 11. Bob took 16 fish with 7 forties to 49.2 lbs and 3 thirties to 39.9 lbs. Wife Jackie had 19 fish with 3 forties and 5 thirties.
Fred T fished swim 1 for 6 fish to 48.8 lbs and Pete Hutchins had a 32 lbs mirror from swim 4.
43 fish came out the following week to the 4 anglers on the lake. This included 2 fifties, 8 forties and 22 thirties.
Mick Riddell fished swims 10 and 11 through the week to take 11 fish including the weeks biggest at 52.6 lbs. Mick also had 4 other forties to 49.8 lbs. Also fishing peg 11 Barry Binet took 10 fish with 2 over forty, the best at 48.8 lbs.
Pat Issacs in swim 12 landed the weeks other fifty at 51.10 lbs. Pat also had 2 forties and 9 thirties.
Kev Elliott chose the shallow end of the lake and banked 8 fish with 7 of them over thirty, best 36.10 lbs. Stalking in the bottom bay produced many of Kevin's fish.
The penultimate week at Millstone produced 44 fish with 14 forties and 13 thirties.
Stan Lockyer in swim 11 took 16 fish with the best a new pb of 40.8 lbs. Stan also landed 7 thirties.
Dave Jackson in swim 3 caught 12 fish with 5 forties and 4 thirties. This included a pb common of 40.2 lbs and pb mirror of 46.2 lbs.
Mark Reynolds fished swim 12 for the week and maggots proved to be the big fish bait as he took 8 fish with 5 of them forties. Best a new pb of 47.9 lbs.
Darren Irani tackled swim 1 and was rewarded with the weeks biggest at 48 lbs along with 2 other forties in his 7 fish catch. The forties coming from an area 10 feet from the bank.
Rob Lewis down in 4 took a common of 39.5 lbs which was a pb. This was Robs only fish of the week.

Newsletter No. 7 - 2005

Millstone opened on 2 April and the five anglers had to endure some terrible weather conditions over the week including snow showers. However they caught well with a number of good fish banked. 59 carp landed, including one 50, eleven 40s and twenty-two 30s. Lake regular Graham of Carpnetics used his company’s own 14mm boilies over pellet in swim 12 to take 15 quality fish with seven 40s and six 30s. Graham’s best common went 49lb 12oz, a pb and his best mirror went 46lb 10oz. Alan Robinson and party from Huddersfield fished swim 11 and took 20 fish with two 40s and ten 30s. Alan shared swim 11 with Carl who banked three fish to 37lb 8oz. Nigel in swim 7 took seventeen fish with the week’s biggest at 50lb 2oz plus a 43lb and four 30s. His fishing partner, Miles, in swim 8, landed four fish with his best being a pb 41lb common. The Huddersfield lads took all their fish on 14mm baits fished over Millstone pellet at short range.

The following week continued in the same manner with poor weather but good fishing. The three anglers accounted for 43 fish with one 50, nine 40s and twenty-three 30s. Top rod Ali Gilmour in swim 11 took 21 fish with five 40s and twelve 30s. All took a pb mirror of 47lb 12oz and pb common of 39lb. Stu Gilmour in swim 12 banked eight fish with three 40s and three 30s. Stu beat his pb three times and his best weighed in at 48lb 12oz. Kev Reid landed the week’s biggest, a mighty mirror of 50lb from swim 9. Kev managed 14 fish in all with the pb 50, a 40, and eight 30s including a pb common of 33lb 4oz. Mainline Activ-8 and Squirrel Baits in 18 and 14mm over pellets working for the Yateley anglers.

Fifty-four fish were landed by the five anglers the following week. This included two 50s, eleven 40s and twenty-eight 30s. Josh Jupp fished swims 7, 6 and 12 through the week to take 16 fish with four 40s and eight 30s. His catch included a pb mirror of 45lb and a pb common of 43lb 4oz. Josh’s father, Richard, fished with friend Graham in swim 11. Richard took 12 fish with a 50lb 8oz pb mirror, a 40 and five 30s. Graham had eight fish with a pb mirror of 41lb and a pb common of 40lb 8oz along with four 30s. Gary Vaughan fished swims 1 and 4 through the week and banked the week’s biggest fish, a 51lb 2oz mirror, another pb. Gary took 11 fish in all with his 50 and three 40s. Adrian Mason in swim 3 took seven fish with a 40 and five 30s. Premier Baits working for Adam and Gary.


Newsletter No. 6 - 2005

The fine weather during late September and early October brought the Millstone fish on the feed in a big way.

Bryan Burghs party of 5 from Shropshire landed an awesome haul of big carp between Sept 25 and Oct 2. 77 fish landed with 1 fifty, 12 forties and 34 thirties.

Bryan landed 12 fish with 2 forties and 5 thirties including a 36.8lbs common.

Andy Bladon had the most fish; 23 with 4 forties to 47lbs, plus a 41.2lbs common and 10 thirties.

Rich Turner banked 18 fish with 3 forties and 10 thirties, best a 42.12lbs mirror.

Steve Gaunt caught the weeks biggest at 51.10lbs along with 2 forties at 44.12lbs and 46.9lbs plus 6 thirties including a 37lbs common amongst his 19 fish.

Mark Shilham managed 5 fish with a 46lbs mirror and 3 thirties including a 30.12lbs common.

All the anglers beat their pb’s many times.

The lads used SBS M1 baits in small sizes and fished with stringers or small bags and no free offerings. All the swims on the lake were fished and fish were caught from all over. Andy in particular had an enjoyable two hours in the back bay shallows one afternoon, landing 7 fish including a forty.

The following week also produced plenty of quality fish with 47 fish landed including 10 forties and 15 thirties.

Pat Isaccs fished swim 11 and took 14 fish. 6 of these were forties, the best being a 48.4lbs common. Pats best mirror weighed 44lbs. In fact Pat had a run of 4 consecutive forties.

Kevin Elliott fished swim 4 to take 14 carp up to a new pb of 40.6lbs.

Steve Payne in swim 2 had a couple of the weeks biggest fish, mirrors of 47.2lbs and 49.8lbs amongst his 8 fish haul.

Kev Simmons landed 8 fish including 3 thirties alternating between swims 1 and 3.

Darren Grimstead landed a pb 41lbs mirror amongst his 3 fish.

The lads used baits provided by Active Bait Solutions. Small quantities of 14mm boilies at short range doing the business.

Colder weather and heavy rain throughout the week made for a slower session for next 4 anglers on. However in the conditions the guys did very well, taking 28 fish with 4 forties and 12 thirties.

Mark Jefford banked 8 fish with 4 thirties to 37.12lbs from swim 2.

Colin O’Neill in swim 1 took 7 fish with a pb mirror of 41.9lbs and 5 thirties to 39.8lbs.

Down towards the shallows in swims 3 and 4 brothers Stu and Daran Brasier shared 13 fish including 3 forties at 40, 43 and the weeks best at 46.12lbs. Both anglers beating their pb’s. A selection of Premier bait working for the lads.

16 to 23 of October and Dave Billetts party banked a number of real quality fish. 3 fifties, 10 forties and 16 thirties in a 41 fish haul.

Dave, wife Barbra and son Nick all banked fifty pounders. Not sure if this is a unique catch for a family.

Dave had the weeks biggest at 52.8lbs amongst his 6 fish. He also had a 42.8lbs and 4 thirties to 39.8lbs. Dave fished swim 2.

Barbra Billett banked 10 fish from swim 1 with a new pb at 50.3lbs and 3 forties to 44lbs.

Nick Billett down in swim 4 landed 9 fish including a 51lbs common, mirrors of 48.4lbs and 46.4lbs along with 4 thirties to 39.8lbs.

Nathan Ketcher in swim 3 took 6 fish with forties of 49 and 40.8lbs. Nathan also took 4 thirties to 39.12lbs.

Over in swim 10 Darren Martin netted 10 fish with 2 forties to 43lbs and 4 thirties to 38.8lbs.

Dave’s home made fish meal boilies with plenty of GLM and betaine working for the five anglers. Small pockets of bait tripping the big fish up.
